CSCR This Week: Solidarity Blend

Greetings POK Coffee Lovers,

Delivery – Big news!  Boardman Road Library has reopened and is allowing us to put back our bin.  In addition, Café 40 opened last week and several members were able to pick up there.  We’ll be in touch individually about pick-up locations with everyone.  (If you are picking up at Poughkeepsie Farm Project, that remains the same.)  So it looks like our doorstep delivery is coming to an end, and we hope Dutchess County continues to move in the right direction.

Coffee and Racial Justice - We have not made a public statement on racial justice until now because we wanted to take some time to reflect and begin to develop a plan of action.

These past few weeks and months have laid bare the facts of just how much systemic racism leads not only to police violence against black individuals but also to disparate treatment in many social systems, including health care, employment, criminal justice and housing.  Systemic racism has been deeply entrenched in our country for too long, and at North River Roasters we believe that black lives matter and we stand with the protestors   We are committed to fighting racism and we recognize that we too need to be better at working towards antiracism, because being not racist is not enough.

To that end, we will be donating all profits from our newly created Solidarity Blend to a local racial justice organization, while supplies last.  The blend is made up of beans from all five continents in the coffee belt because this is a worldwide concern.  We’ll be featuring this blend for our CSCR subscribers this week and next, and profits from subscription fees for this two-week period will be included in our donation.

At the same time, we will look into sourcing our supplies from black-owned businesses whenever possible, as well as continue our monthly donations to Dutchess Outreach for their Mobile Market and Food Pantry programs.  In addition to these small, initial steps, we remain dedicated to continuing our education on antiracism. We can and will do better.

We hope that you continue to stay safe and healthy.

Here's to another cup – virtually together,

The NRR Team
