CSCR This Week: Guatemala - Café de Mujeres

Greetings POK Coffee Lovers,

This Week’s Roast - This week we’re featuring a new Guatemala coffee we just got in with flavor notes we thought you might find both interesting and unusual – pear, meyer lemon and caramel.  This coffee, Café de Mujeres, is grown by a group of 182 female farmers who are part of a much larger cooperative with 1,400 members in Huehuetenango.  (We’ve had coffee from the area before.)  The area is rugged and as a result has preserved the indigenous heritage and dialects of these communities.  Farmers cultivate and harvest their own coffee on small farms equipped with micro-mills to prepare coffee for export.  The program for women farmers includes technical assistance to help them with issues including crop diversification and making organic fertilizers from coffee pulp, which is both cheaper and better for the environment.  This coffee is Fair Trade and organic certified.

Pick-up – For those of you picking up at Café 40, please note they will be closed Friday September 4th as well as Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.  We’ll have your coffee there by Wednesday morning first thing on September 2nd.

We hope that you continue to stay safe and healthy.

Here's to another cup – virtually together,

The NRR Team
