This week we’ve created something we’re calling our Sisterhood Blend. It is a blend of our Rwanda and Peru, both coming from cooperatives focused on empowering women.
Founded in 2000, The Dukunde Kawa Cooperative (Musasa) cultivates its high-quality coffee near a mountain gorilla habitat in central Rwanda. By producing high-end coffee for the international market and employing a majority female workforce, the cooperative ensures maximum benefits to local families. In 2003, it built a washing station with funds provided by the Rwandan ministry of defense.
San Ignacio, Cajamarca Peru (Cooperative Agraria “Frontera San Ignacio” Ltda) was officially established in June 1969. Gender equality was an important factor when the land was purchased and divided among producers. This particular cooperative is unique because they empower and promote “women grown” coffee.
